The Four Year Hitch
Modern Relationships magazine publishes a “based-on-a-true” story about Julie Curry and Joshua Fisher, childhood friends who navigate adolescence into adulthood and marry six years after college. Subscribers rate it a romantic hit because of its sweet, fairytale-like outcome. But the real-life chance of their romance happening as written is nil. At their fifteenth college class reunion, the couple admits to a fellow alum that the story editor created an entertaining tale but not a factual one. The ending is a lie.
The Four Year Hitch is their continuing love story, authenticated by the alum who listened and wrote it down. Julie and Josh marry four years after the article publishes, and during that time almost lose each other forever. It’s a compelling, romantic, almost impossible struggle to be together after the magazine fantasy ends.
